weeds or wild flowers?

I have been in a wee bit of a project, recipe and creativite rut lately. I am however, finding inspiration in the beauty of nature and others. I am taking advantage of it. You can find inspiration and beauty everywhere you go. You just have to open your eyes. And look for it. Go on a drive. Take some time out from the daily routine of go, go, go.

One of my favorite things to do in the summer and early fall is to seek out wild flowers in the ditches along the fields whether I am on a walk or driving. I have found a favorite spot the last few summers where morning glories seem to pop up around the same place. Ironically, it's in my husband's best friend's field. He hates morning glories. Morning glories are a nuisance for crops because they wrap around and vine upwards. It makes harvesting difficult and can create a tangled mess.

However, I think morning glories are beauitful, nuisance or not. Even though the fields are sprayed for weeds, these guys seem to find a way to grow. They start growing in the ditch line and work their way to the corn stalks.

It's not rare to find morning glories creeping up a corn stalk this time of year. However, I do find it rare to find a whole patch of them; growing in various colors.

This is the only spot I've ever seen this many morning glories at once. Pink, blue, purple. All blending together creating a wonerful pallete of color against the greenry of crops and other weeds.

You see, morning glories have a way of bringing their color and joy to us even when all the other weeds around them have been sprayed and killed off.

I think we can learn a lot from morning glories and other wild flowers. There's a lot of bad in this world. A lot. In fact, I think often times there may be more bad than good. It's easy to form a negative attitude, getting caught up in the wrong doings of others. A lot of people are always focusing on the bad in the world. They focus so much on the bad that they are always missing out on the good.

I hear more and more negative comments about our president, the poor behavior of Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, the people living off the government, the poor economy, the rise and fall of the stock market, the bad things found in the foods we eat and the growing crime rate in cities than I do anything else in the media.

I understand that a lot of that is news and there's no way of tuning that stuff out. These things are going to happen whether we want them to or not. But like a person finding the pretty wild flowers in a patch of weeds, we must seek out the good in the world. We must focus less energy on the bad. The bad isn't going to get us anywhere but bitter.

You may have some negative people in your life always leaving a bad taste in your mouth. Kind of like the weeds that keep popping up in my driveway faster than I can kill them off. These people never find true happiness with themselves so they must pray on people who are happy and pick them apart. Negative and jealous people want to bring the rest of their friends, family and the world down with them. They want us to feel just as bad as they do. They're always going to be right; no matter the situation.

We must seek out the positive, flexible people in our lives and focus more of our energy on them. These people are the wild flowers. These are the people that will bring beauty and positive influences to our lives. I find that the older I get, the more and more I give up on negative people, finding myself not wanting to try anymore with them. I think it's the fact that I've learned that life is too short to not enjoy every moment and every breath. Everything happens for a reason. The good and the bad. The way we handle these situations are what set us apart from others.

So really, when it comes down to it, do you want to see weeds or would you rather see wild flowers?
